Russian plans construction of environment protection fleet by 2021, which is part of the program of social and economic development of the Arctic. The total worth of the project is 3.1 billion rubles (53.20 million USD), according to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia, Sergey Donskoy.
“The state program of social and economic development of the Arctic, on the initiative of the Ministry, included an event for the construction of the nature protection fleet in order to ensure environmental supervision in the seas and on the continental shelf in 2021 with a funding volume of 3.1 billion rubles”, said Sergey Donskoy. According to him, such a fleet will increase the safety of maritime activities and will significantly level out possible environmental risks for marine ecosystems.
Another way to reduce environmental risks is also the transition to usage of ships running at liquefied natural gas (LNG), or Green Shipping, considers the Minister. He suggested starting with the Northern Sea Route.

In turn, the Ministry of Natural Resources, within the framework of implementing the projects of the Arctic Council, participates in the creation of three river tankers for LNG for Volgotrans”, added also Sergey Donskoy.
He noted that the Ministry of Natural Resources also initiated a project for the construction of ships and the preparation of safe from the point of view of the sea ecology of the GSHipping routes, under which the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide a preferential credit line for 100 Russian environmental contribution to the global environmental fund millions of euro, which is currently frozen.
